ICGC Industrial Concrete Grinding and Cutting

Epoxy & Waterproofing Prep

Epoxy Flood Coat & Waterproofing Prep

The coating is only as good as the prep underneath. We grind concrete to the exact profile your epoxy flood coat, waterproofing membrane, or resin system needs. Brisbane, Gold Coast and Northern Rivers.

Why Prep Matters

Get It Right the First Time

Epoxy coatings fail for one reason more than any other: bad surface preparation. If the concrete isn’t properly profiled, cleaned, and free of contaminants, the coating won’t bond. It peels. It bubbles. It delaminates. And then you’re paying twice - once to strip it, and again to redo it properly.

ICGC prepares concrete surfaces to the exact Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) your coating system requires. We work directly with coaters, builders, and facility managers to make sure the slab is right before a drop of epoxy goes down.

What We Do

Preparation That Coatings Can Rely On

Diamond Grinding

Our primary method for surface preparation. Diamond grinding removes laitance, existing coatings, contamination, and surface imperfections while creating a consistent mechanical profile across the entire slab.

  • Achieves CSP 1 to 3 - suitable for thin-film coatings, sealers, and self-levelling systems

Scarifying

For heavier removal - thick coatings, heavily contaminated surfaces, or when a deeper profile is required. Scarifying machines cut into the concrete surface to create an aggressive key for thick-build systems.

  • Achieves CSP 4 to 7 - suitable for thick-build epoxy, polyurethane, and cementitious overlays

Coating Removal

Old epoxy, polyurethane, paint, or sealers need to come off completely before new coatings can go down. We grind or scarify existing coatings back to bare concrete, then re-profile to spec.

How It Works

Our Process

01

Consult

We discuss the project with you and your coater. What coating system is going down? What CSP does it need? Is there existing coatings or contamination to remove first?

02

Assess the Slab

We inspect for moisture, cracks, existing coatings, oil contamination, and slab condition. Any issues that could affect coating adhesion are flagged before work starts.

03

Set Up

Dust extraction connected. Surrounding areas protected. Our dust-free process means no silica dust on your site.

04

Prepare

Diamond grinding or scarifying to achieve the specified CSP. We work methodically across the slab, checking profile consistency as we go.

05

Verify & Handover

We verify the surface profile, ensure the slab is clean and free of contaminants, and hand over to your coating applicator. The slab is ready for immediate coating application.

Precision

Ground to Profile

We grind to the specific Concrete Surface Profile your coating manufacturer specifies. Not rougher, not smoother. The correct profile means the coating bonds properly and performs to its rated lifespan.

We check profile consistency across the slab as we work, not just at the end. Consistent preparation means consistent coating performance.

Our Clients

Trusted by Coaters and Builders

Epoxy & Coating Applicators

We prepare the slab to your spec so you can coat with confidence. Consistent CSP across the full area, no adhesive residue, no moisture issues left unaddressed.

Builders & Project Managers

One subcontractor for slab preparation. We coordinate with your coater, work to your programme, and hand over on schedule.

Facility Managers

Warehouse, factory, and commercial floors that need recoating. We strip existing coatings and re-profile - with dust-free equipment so your facility can stay operational.

Surface Preparation FAQs

Yes. Our diamond grinders remove paint, epoxy, polyurethane, adhesive residue, and most other coatings. We grind back to clean concrete, then prepare the surface for whatever comes next.

Coating failures are almost always caused by poor surface prep. Epoxy applied over laitance, oil, adhesive, or a poorly profiled surface will delaminate, sometimes within weeks. Recoating after failure costs two to three times the original job. Proper surface preparation is always cheaper than fixing a failed coating.

We diamond grind or scarify concrete to the Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) specified by your coating system. This creates the mechanical key needed for proper adhesion. We also remove existing coatings, oil, and other contaminants that prevent bonding. Our equipment and process match the CSP requirements of every major epoxy and polyurethane coating system used in Australia.

We grind to the Concrete Surface Profile specified by your coating manufacturer. Thin coatings like polyaspartic and thin-film epoxies typically need CSP 2 to 3. Thicker flood coats and self-levelling epoxies need CSP 3 to 4. Slurry systems and heavy industrial coatings may need CSP 5 or higher. Tell us which coating system is going down and we will match the profile exactly.

Yes. We prepare concrete substrates for waterproofing membranes on balconies, roof decks, planter boxes, and wet areas. The surface profile for waterproofing membranes is typically smoother than for epoxy, so we adjust the grind to suit the product specification.
