Why Dust-Free

Silica Dust is Not Optional

Concrete grinding produces fine silica dust. Without proper extraction, that dust gets into everything - air systems, equipment, stock, occupied spaces. It’s a health hazard, a compliance issue, and a cleanup nightmare.

ICGC runs full dust extraction on every job. Our grinders are connected to industrial HEPA-filtered vacuum systems that capture dust at the source. The result: clean air, clean floors, and a site that stays operational while we work.

This isn’t an optional extra. It’s how we do every job.

The System

How Dust-Free Grinding Works

At the Grinder

Every grinding machine is fitted with a dust shroud that seals against the floor surface. As the diamonds cut the concrete, the shroud contains the dust and feeds it directly into the extraction system. Dust never reaches the open air.

Industrial Vacuum Extraction

Connected to each grinder is an industrial vacuum unit with multi-stage filtration. These aren’t shop vacs - they’re purpose-built dust extractors rated for continuous operation on concrete dust.

HEPA Filtration

The final filtration stage uses HEPA filters that capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. Silica dust particles are typically 1 to 100 microns, so virtually nothing gets through.

Air Monitoring

On sensitive sites - hospitals, schools, food processing, occupied offices - we can provide air quality monitoring to verify dust levels remain within safe limits throughout the job.

Edge Grinding with Extraction

Dust extraction isn’t just for the main grinder. Our edge grinders and detail equipment are also connected to extraction systems, so edges along walls, columns, and corners are ground dust-free as well.

This is where many operators cut corners. We don’t.

Applications

Built for Sensitive Environments

Occupied Commercial Buildings

Offices, retail spaces, and hospitality venues where people are working or shopping while we grind. No dust means no disruption to your business.

Healthcare & Aged Care

Hospitals, medical centres, and aged care facilities with strict air quality requirements. Our extraction system keeps dust levels well within acceptable limits.

Food & Beverage Facilities

Processing plants, commercial kitchens, and food storage areas where contamination is not an option.

Residential (Occupied Homes)

Homeowners living in the property during renovation. Our dust-free process means you don’t need to move out while we work on your floors.

How It Works

Our Process

01

Site Assessment

We assess the space, identify sensitivities (occupied areas, air systems, equipment), and plan the extraction setup accordingly.

02

Containment & Setup

Dust extraction equipment is positioned and connected. If required, we install temporary barriers to isolate the work area from occupied spaces.

03

Grind with Extraction

All grinding is done with dust extraction running continuously. The operator monitors extraction performance throughout.

04

Clean & Verify

After grinding, we vacuum all surfaces and verify the area is clean. On sensitive sites, we can provide air quality documentation.

05

Handover

Site handed over clean and ready - for coatings, for the next trade, or for immediate reoccupation.

Common Questions

Dust-Free Grinding FAQs

Can't find your answer? Get in touch and we'll talk it through.

Standard grinding produces significant silica dust. We use portable industrial vacuum extraction connected directly to our grinding machinery, capturing dust at the source. This keeps the site cleaner, protects everyone's health, and makes us suitable for occupied or partially occupied buildings including apartments, retail tenancies, and healthcare facilities.

In most cases, yes. Our dust-free grinding process uses industrial HEPA extraction connected directly to the machinery, so there is minimal dust and disruption. We protect surrounding rooms and furniture before we start. Most homeowners carry on as normal in other parts of the house while we work, and commercial clients can often keep adjacent areas operating.

Every ICGC grinder runs with industrial HEPA-filtered vacuum extraction connected directly to the machine. The extraction captures silica dust at the source, before it becomes airborne. The site stays clean, the air stays safe, and we comply with all current silica dust regulations. This process makes us suitable for occupied buildings, retail tenancies, and healthcare facilities.

Dust-free grinding is standard on every ICGC job, not an upgrade or add-on. You do not pay extra for it. We built our process around HEPA extraction from the start because it is safer for our team, safer for our clients, and legally required for occupied buildings and compliance with silica dust regulations.

Yes. Our dust-free grinding process is designed for occupied buildings. We work in retail tenancies during trading hours, office buildings while staff are present, and residential towers while tenants remain. HEPA extraction keeps the air clean, we protect adjacent areas, and we schedule around your operating hours where needed.
